The Waconia Ice Arena is a brand new facility which opened its doors in May of 2008. It is located at the corner of Community Drive and Oak Avenue. The Waconia Ice Arena is the place to go for open skating, lessons, hockey games and more. Lessons are available for all skill levels and ages. Many residents throughout Waconia work with the police department to set up and maintain Neighborhood Watch Programs. This is a program in which regular citizens get involved in watching their neighborhoods for suspicious or disruptive behavior. The citizens are trained to deal with these problems by learning self defense maneuvers, ways to make their home more secure and more. Summers are great in Waconia and many homeowners enjoy the taste and smell of a fresh outdoor barbecue. Waconia's Safari Island Community Center is located at 1600 Community Driver. This is the ideal place for community gatherings and more. The center is complete with a state of the art fitness center and play areas for the kids. In fact, there are even child care providers on site so you can get your workout in while your children are cared for. You can also take swim lessons at the center and there are instructors available for all skill levels and ages. There are also four basketball and volleyball courts and they are each available for rental at $20 per hour during regular business hours.
